What you will do in the role

  • Develop a network complement of extended family and community support providers within the Agency’s jurisdiction.
  • Develop and deliver culturally appropriate, and comprehensive orientations for placement providers.
  • Assist the Alternative Care Team in the development of and/or contract with support services, clinical or traditional resources, community partnerships, internal support groups and training.
  • Provide training to members of our frontline teams to apply family finding and community outreach tools.
  • Participate in child protection home visits to assess potential respite, in-home and out of home support and placement options.
  • Complete assessments of identified extended family and community placements and document the information gathered.
  • Carry kinship service cases, support relationships between the kinship families and immediate family members as appropriate.
  • Develop and ensure the consistent adherence to agency protocols for the placement of a child(ren) in kinship service, and extended family placements.
  • Routinely review and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the children/youth’s current placement in collaboration with team members ensuring all supports are in place to address identified needs.
  • Maintain records and produce program reports as per all related standards.

What you bring to the table

  • BSW degree or diploma in Child and Youth Worker or Social Service Worker program.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working within the Child Welfare Sector, preferably with Indigenous families
  • Knowledge of all relevant legislation including the Child and Family Services Act and Ontario’s Child Protection standards
  • Knowledge of theories and tools of family findings and community outreach (Genogram, eco-gram, family mapping)
  • Knowledge of SAFE and PRIDE an asset
  • Ability to collaborate productively with people of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, both within and outside the agency.
  • Ability to speak a Native language will be considered a major asset.
  • Must produce a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Must possess a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s licence, be willing to travel and able to work flexible hours.
