What you will do in the role

  • To liaise with the Intake Team to receive all 12-hour responses and high risk and complex investigations in conjunction with the Intake Lead review/consultation
  • Conduct joint investigations and home visits with police as appropriate to ensure the safety of children through the procedure of forensic interviewing
  • Interview and assess all parties involved including referral source, children and extended families and other professionals
  • Complete Investigation and Assessments for the purpose of formulating safety, treatment and service plans for the child and family
  • To assist child and family through linking them to other agencies that can provide support for social/emotional/psychological and physical wellbeing
  • Consult with community partners in developing appropriate extended family and Alternative Care placements and admit children into the care and custody of the Agency when necessary
  • Document, complete and coordinate all requirements for court hearings
  • Appear as a witness in child welfare, criminal or family court
  • Prepare children and families for the transfer of service from Investigation to Ongoing Services
  • Prepare and attend transfer interviews and conferences
  • Collaborate with the First Nation Communities to explore options and alternative strategies to address complex issues affecting First Nations families
  • Coordinates case management regarding High-Risk files, ensuring an emphasis on early intervention and least disruptive measures
  • Collaborates with other intake workers regarding files and supports appropriate file management for High Risk and standard files
  • Complete statistical and contextual information as required by Program Co-ordinator
  • Where required, will provide periodic supervisory coverage within Child Protection Department

What you bring to the table

  • BSW, MSW preferred, with a minimal of 5 years in Child Welfare including supervisory experience or combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer
  • Must have extensive forensic experience and demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment
  • Must have experience working with First Nations families and communities
  • Being knowledgeable regarding all current legislation which impacts the provision of services to Indigenous families and children.
