What you will do in the role

  • Provides fair, equitable, respectful, and culturally relevant service to First Nations children and families, consistent with the vision, mission, and values of Kunuwanimano.
  • Maintains positive relationships with First Nations Councils, elders, committees, and applicable agencies.
  • Subscribe to the organization values of Kunuwanimano and complies with the organization’s By-Laws, Policies, and Procedures.
  • Establishes effective relationships with a caseload of children either at home or in the care of the Agency.
  • Provides counseling and crises intervention services to children.
  • Reports immediately to the Program Supervisor, all incidents, or suspicions of physical or sexual abuse of children.
  • Participates in investigations as directed.
  • Collaborates with Family Services Workers in the development of plans of care for children in the temporary care of the Agency.
  • Ensures that the familial, physical, emotional, social, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of children are met.
  • Coordinates family access visits for children in the care of the Agency.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors treatment plans for children in accordance with identified needs.
  • Supports the Family Services Worker in coordinating customary care and Agency placements.

What you bring to the table

  • BSW degree or Social Service Worker program.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of previous experience working with children within a human service environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Previous child welfare experience within First Nations communities an asset.
  • Must possess a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s licence, be willing to travel, able to work flexible hours and provide on-call services when required.
  • Must produce clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Ability to speak a native language considered a major asset.
  • Demonstrate excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiating, decision making, planning, organizational, administrative, and oral and written communication skills.
